St. Joseph’s festival begins in Broadalbin

BROADALBIN - Since 2007, the parishioners at St. Joseph's Church have been hosting an annual festival at the church.

This year's festival began Thursday and runs through Saturday. The festival is open from 5 to 10 p.m. each day.

The event includes rides, games, food and entertainment.

This year, organizers invited craft vendors.

Rides and some games are provided by Family Fun Amusements, while the rest of event is headed by the parishioners.

DJ Sal Cannavo will host entertainment and karaoke tonight and Saturday.

According to co-chairwoman Vickie Bartow, the parishioners provide games, make food, host a raffle and put on a cake walk, with cakes to be won.

"There are wonderful prizes to be won," said Barbara Foreman, a member of the raffle committee.

Prize winners will be announces Saturday night. Participants have the chance to win $2,000, a week in Cape Cod, an hour ride on a personal plane and 16 different prize baskets. In addition, 10 people have the chance to win $100.

All prizes were donated by the parishioners and clubs such as the Knight of Columbus and the Rosary Society.

Raffle tickets for the baskets and other prizes cost one for $1, six for $5, or 15 for $10. The big-money raffle costs $5 per ticket.

The festival is a fundraiser for the parish. Katie Bolibaugh is chairwoman of the event, and John and Vicki Bartow are co-chairmen.

The church also will have a thrift shop open during the event.
