GLOVERSVILLE - City police said officers arrested a man for the burglary of a local convenience store and found he was responsible for a home burglary in June.

Stephen E. Dingman, 18, of 272 Bleecker St., was arrested Tuesday and charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, both felonies, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

Officers were dispatched to Country Farms at 198 S. Main St. at 5:15 a.m. Sunday and found a hole in the glass door.

Video surveillance footage showed the man kicked a hole in the door and then crawled through before stealing several packs of Newport cigarettes.

After the burglary, the city police department sought the public's help by using a still photo and video to try and identify the person involved.

Police said after receiving several leads from the public, officers were able to locate and arrest Dingman.

During the course of the investigation, police said, detectives also found Dingman was responsible for a home burglary in late June.

Police said Dingman entered a residence and stole a Wii game console and games.

Dingman was additionally charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, and another count of petit larceny.

In July, officers also were dispatched late one night to the Getty Mart at 394 N. Main St. after a burglar alarm was set off and cigarettes were taken.

Detective Sgt. Mike Jory said this morning the department is still investigating the Getty Mart burglary, but there is a possibility the two may have been connected.

However, Jory said, no charges have been filed yet and the department is still following leads in relation to that burglary.
