FONDA - CSX could open the closed portion of Route 5 sometime this week, after weeks of cleanup following a train accident in late June.
Jim Piccola, New York State Department of Transportation District 1 spokesman, said CSX could open the road in the middle of the week, based on discussions between DOT and CSX on July 8.
Piccola said Monday he is speaking with professionals to get a more accurate picture.
"I'm hoping within the next day or two, we should have an idea," Piccola said.
Part of Route 5 has been closed to through traffic since CSX freight cars derailed. Currently, traffic is being diverted through Fultonville, down Route 5S.
