Robert P. Swarthout

Robert P. Swarthout, 79, of Johnstown, N.Y., passed away July 19, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital.

He was born Feb. 3, 1934, in Gloversville, N.Y., the son of Chester and Florence Hayward Swarthout. Mr. Swarthout was educated in Johnstown schools and was employed by various construction companies in the area. He worked on the New York State Thruway, Freeman's Bridge, the Johnstown Post Office, Tryon School and McNab, Jansen and Glebe Street schools. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Local Union 157. His interests were cats, cars and classical music.

He is survived by his friends, Holly Carolina Decker, Terry (Jill) Bell and Jason (Ann) Hinman, all of Gloversville. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Ehle Funeral Home, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Ferndale Cemetery.
