Man indicted, but not in connection with wife's death

JOHNSTOWN - The town of Mayfield man whose wife's dead body was found in June 2012 in a remote section of Mayfield has been indicted by a Fulton County grand jury, but not in connection with her death.

County District Attorney Louise Sira said today that Brent S. Alling Sr., 43, of 127 Delaney Road, was indicted Monday on charges of misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, failure to signal a turn, no seatbelt, and misdemeanor third-degree assault. He is free on bail.

Sira said Alling is accused in the assault count of biting his now-deceased wife - 54-year-old Kathryn Jackson Alling - on the left forearm. Mrs. Alling's naked, bruised body was found the morning of June 4, 2012, on remote Tyrrell Road by town employees collecting garbage.

"The medical examiner was not able to determine the cause of death," Sira said.

She said the recent grand jury that was impaneled in the Alling case reviewed allegations Brent Alling improperly placed his wife's body on Tyrrell Road, but chose not to indict him. Sira said Alling still faces up to a year in jail if convicted on the DWI count, and a year for the assault, which she said may have occurred between June 1-3, 2012.

Sira said Kathryn Jackson Alling had a number of health issues and the nature of the bruising on her body was "unclear," Dr. Michael Sikirica determined. Sira said the woman also had a number of heart and lung issues and an undiagnosed skin condition "further complicated" autopsy results.

"I have met with Kathryn Jackson's family and they are discouraged by these results," Sira said.

She said the family still feels her death is "suspicious."

Brent Alling was charged June 5 by state police with driving while intoxicated, a license-restriction violation, unsafe turn/failure to signal, a seatbelt violation and refusal to take a breath test.
