Long Island pair face drug charges

July 15, 2013
The Leader Herald

FLORIDA-Two Long Island residents were charged Sunday with having drugs including hallucinogens and marijuana.

Christopher Michael Broems, 23, and Brittany Mishelle Mahler, 22, of 3014 Clubhouse Road, Merrick, Nassau County, were each charged by Montgomery County sheriff's deputies with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell and fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

Authorities said during a traffic stop on Route 30 in the town, Broems acted with strange and confusing behavior.

Deputies said Broems began throwing items around in the car and was asked to get out. When deputies opened the door, illegal controlled substances were in plain view, authorities said.

A search of the vehicle found large quantities of MDMA, a pure form of the drug Ecstasy, hallucinogenic mushrooms and marijuana. Deputies also seized a scale and a large quantity of empty pill capsules, as well as a tool used for loading the capsules.

Broems and Mahler were arraigned and sent to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 secured bond.
