The Leader Herald

FONDA - A retired Montgomery County Sheriff's Office K-9 died Thursday.

K-9 Bear, 11 years old, was the partner of Deputy Jason R. Nare.

K-9 Bear joined the Sheriff's Office in May 2003.

Shortly after that, Nare and Bear became a New York state Certified Patrol and Narcotics K-9 Unit graduating from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office basic K-9 school.

Deputy Nare and K-9 Bear became certified by NAPWDA, a National K-9 Organization that certifies teams.

The pair enjoyed many years together as a successful K-9 team, the Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

Bear retired in April 2012 and remained Jason's off-duty partner until he died peacefully, the release said.

The Sheriff's Office said the team is noted for many successful tracks and drug finds.

The team was successful in locating thousands of dollars' worth of drugs and locating and arresting many suspects throughout K-9 Bear's career, the release said.

They were also known for doing K-9 demonstrations for the community.
