JOHNSTOWN - A Gloversville man who authorities said illegally used a Social Security number to purchase property is headed to state prison for one to three years.

Marshall D. Alessi, 23, of 68 W. Eighth Ave., was sentenced Friday by Fulton County Court Judge Polly A. Hoye to prison, as well as $1,878 restitution.

He pleaded guilty May 10 to one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, as part of a plea arrangement.

Alessi was arrested Nov. 3 by Gloversville police. Investigators said he used an acquaintance's Social Security number to buy items online. An investigation found Alessi used the number several times using a PayPal account. Police said Alessi had packages delivered to his residence.
