Police looking for burglary suspects

GLOVERSVILLE-City police are looking for the public's assistance after two burglaries at a local convenience store.

Police said officers were dispatched to the Getty Mart at 394 N. Main St. at about 1:45 a.m. Monday after a burglar alarm was set off.

Video surveillance and witness accounts showed two suspects were wearing masks and gloves. The taller of the two people was wearing dark jeans and a light T-shirt with a dark tank top over it and had a backpack on, police said.

The shorter suspect also was wearing jeans and a light T-shirt, police said.

Police said officers recovered a mask and gloves on the Rail Trail between North Main Street and Foster Street.

In a news release, police said video surveillance showed the taller of the two suspects burglarized the same store at about 1:09 a.m. and stole several packs of cigarettes.

Detective Sgt. Michael Jory said the alarm didn't go off during the first burglary, but it did go off during the second attempt.

"At this point, we are not 100 percent sure they [were] the same two people [who] came back," Jory said about the suspects. "The first [burglary] was committed by one or two people and then they may have advised other people."

He said the department is still unsure what exactly what was taken from the store during each break in.

Anyone with information can call 773-4505.
