LITTLE FALLS - The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs returned home Sunday to Veteran's Memorial Park for its Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League matchup against the Amsterdam Mohawks riding a three-game winning streak, while the Mohawks came in with a two-game losing streak.

Rain came down at the park before the game, resulting in a late start after the ground crews did their magic to get the field game ready. When rains came again after five innings of play, the game was called and Amsterdam picked up the 7-3 win.

The Mohawks wasted no time getting on the board when Kyle Barrett (Kentucky) singled, John Sansone (Florida State) was hit by a pitch, John Nogowski (Florida State) reached on an error and the designated hitter Dylan Smith (Auburn) knocked in two runs on a single to take a 2-0 lead.

Amsterdam struck again in the top of the third when Barrett singled and was caught stealing. Nogowski walked and Jordan Ebert (Auburn) singled as did Dylan Smith to give the Mohawks a 3-1 advantage.

Ed Charlton (NJIT) was up next and reached on an error with another run scoring and the Mohawks led 4-1. The Mohawks then broke the game open when Shane Zimmer (Canisius) blasted a 3-run home run to give Amsterdam a commanding 7-1 lead.

Mohawk Valley picked up another run in the fourth when Mike Fischer (Columbia) singled and was thrown out at second, but not before a run scored and the inning ended with the Dawgs down 7-2.

In the bottom half of the fifth, the DiamondDawgs scored again after Casey Rodrigue (Indiana) singled and Daulton Harrington (ULM) walked and the runners attempted a double steal in which the throw to third by Mohawk's catcher Mark Brennan (Marist) got past the third baseman resulting in a run and the Dawgs cutting the lead to 7-3.

In the loss Casey Rodrigue (Indiana) was 2-for-3 with a triple, Jordan Friend (Alabama A&M) was 2-for-2 and Mike Fischer (Columbia) went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Jared Dye (University of Louisiana Monroe) went five innings in the loss, giving up eight hits.

The win for Amsterdam went to Dylan Dwyer (Kentucky) who pitched the full five innings, giving up six hits, three walks and struck out six. Barrett was 2-for-3, Smith was 3-for-3 with a double, Zimmer was 1-for-3 with a 3-run home run. Sansone and Ebert both had singles.

The two teams will square off again tonight at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
