Mr. Charles E. "Chuck" Wright, 71 years old, of Canajoharie, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital. Mr. Wright was born June 22, 1942, the son of Charles J. and Anne M. Kralovic Wright Sr. He was raised in Johnstown and graduated from Johnstown High School in 1960. Chuck attended C.W. Post College, transferred to SUNY Albany where he received his B.S. and earned a Certificate in Guidance and Commerce from SUNY Oneonta. He taught at Canajoharie High School, starting in 1964. In 1970 he accepted a sales position with Schenectady Chemical where he was employed for six years. Chuck founded W.W. Custom Clad in 1976 serving as its president until his retirement in August of 2011. He also started Carolinas Custom Clad in 1997 of Rock Hill, S. Carolina, which is still in operation.
Chuck was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Fort Plain and member for many years of the former St. Anthony's Church in Johnstown. He was a board member of Arkell Hall Foundation, St. Mary's Hospital, Montgomery Co. Big Brothers-Big Sisters, former Mohawk Community Bank in Amsterdam, founding board member and player for Glove Cities Colonials Football Team. Chuck coached Canajoharie High School Football and coached junior football in Canajoharie. Professionally, he was a member and past chairman of Custom Coaters Group in Virginia and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Powder Coating Magazine in Minnesota.
Chuck is survived by his wife, the former Karen A. Lorentzen, whom he married July 15, 1961; his two sons, Chris Wright and his wife, Karen of Rock Hill, S. Carolina and Michael Wright of Brooklyn; his sisters-in-law, Susan Bowe and Mary Sidney Corbett, both of California; and five cousins.
The family wishes to extend a thank you to Dr. Emily Etzkorn, Dr. Nancy Knudsen, the nurses and staff of St. Mary's Hospital, Mountain Valley Hospice and the Wilkinson Rehabilitation Center, for providing the very best care with kindness and understanding. Mr. Wright's family is sincerely thankful for all they have done.
The Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 115 Reid Street, Fort Plain, New York, with the Rev. Dennis Murphy as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Johnstown. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, where his arrangements have been entrusted.
