Bicyclist dies in Route 29A accident

JOHNSTOWN - An accident between a bicyclist and a vehicle on Route 29A on Tuesday claimed the life of local musician and educator Ed Lakata, the victim's brother John Lakata said this morning.

Lakata was riding a bicycle near Skunk Hollow Road at 9:30 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. Both were headed north on Route 29A.

Lakata was a performer in the local band Skyler's Dream Team. He also was a tech instructor at the Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery Board of Cooperative Educational Services.

No tickets were issued in the accident as of Tuesday morning, Sheriff Thomas Lorey said Tuesday.

The Sheriff's Department released no further information to The Leader-Herald on Tuesday or early this morning and would not confirm the identity of the bicyclist.
