Over $5K in heroin seized, police say

AMSTERDAM - City police said a raid conducted with state police Wednesday led to the arrest of one man and the seizure of more than $5,000 in narcotics and various paraphernalia.

Samual Gaston, 40, of 1086 Van Velsen St., Schenectady, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

City police said authorities executed a search warrant Wednesday night on a first-floor apartment at 251 Guy Park Ave. Gaston allegedly used the apartment as a stash house to facilitate his drug trafficking into the city, city police said.

City police said a gram of cocaine, 1 1/2 ounces of heroin - valued at more than $5,000 - and various drug paraphernalia, used for packaging and distributing the heroin, were found in the apartment.

Gaston is currently on probation in Schenectedy County.

He was arraigned in City Court and sent to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
