Gerald L. Savage, 92, passed away after a long illness on Thursday, June 13, 2013. Gerald was born in Northville, N.Y., on April 24, 1921, the son of the late Harry S. and Avis M. Ellsworth Savage.
He was a 1939 graduate of Northville Central School. Gerald was one of five brothers, Earl, Lewis, Raymond and Harry Jr., all predeceased. Married to Mary E. Savage, who predeceased him in 2007.
Gerald worked for The Wallace Co., Schenectady, N.Y. for twenty years and thereafter held various jobs, notably with Dairylea Co. Gerald was a member of the Capital District Umpires Association for 30 years. He was also a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Schenectady, N.Y. and a communicant of Bethany Lutheran Church of Central Bridge, N.Y. Gerald was an avid bowler and hunter and loved the outdoors. Gerald was member of the Republican Party of Duanesburg and involved with the Board of Elections and Parks and Recreation.
Survivors include two sons, John Savage of Bethesda, Maryland and James Savage of Surfside, Texas, from a previous marriage. The stepchildren are Terry (Janet) Ottendorf of Duanesburg, N.Y., Donna Ottendorf (Steven) Roschke of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kurt Ottendorf of Albany, N.Y.; stepgrandchildren are Robert Ottendorf of Gloversville, N.Y., Christopher and Madeline Roschke of Cincinnati, Ohio and Emma, Kyle and Simon Ottendorf of Albany, N.Y.
Friends may call on Thursday, June 20, 2013, between 6 and 8 p.m. at The White-Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main St., Delanson, N.Y. A Funeral Service will be held at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 185 Church St., Central Bridge, NY at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville, N.Y.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Schoharie County Office for the Aging and the Middleburgh Fire Department.
