I would like to share with you a wonderful experience I had last month at a local "gem." On the evening of May 11, I attended a very well thought-out, very well executed dinner theater featuring a performance of "Steel Magnolias" at the Glove Performing Arts Center. While I have been to performances at the GPAC before, this one was a cut above the rest and I was very pleasantly surprised.
The group responsible for the show was a small local theater group called Ful-Mont Rep, and from the performances by the cast, you would not know that they were an amateur group at all. There was a definite sense of "family" not only between the actresses, but also the rest of the group who were around helping seat guests and welcoming them into the theater.
The production quality itself also was a notch above what I've seen offered by the other groups at the theater. The set was superb. It looked nice, sturdy and well-built; whereas some of the other sets I've seen looked like mere cardboard cut-outs, which, in my opinion, doesn't give off a very professional air. The set was excellently decorated as well; no detail was left unnoticed. The one thing I thought was most genius was the set was not on the main stage, but on the theater floor which gave an intimate "theater in the round" feel to the whole experience.
The meal also was superb. They offered an Italian buffet catered by Gloversville's Italian Bistro that was excellent. They also provided all beverages and homemade desserts, which was refreshing to know that you're not going to have to pay an extravagant amount for bottled water, stale-tasting popcorn and store-bought pastries.
At the end of the day, I want to congratulate the powers that be for finding this group, and I would strongly suggest to the board at GPAC to continue to bring Ful-Mont Rep in to your theater. They are the innovative breath of fresh air the theater needs to rejuvenate interest in the arts.
I strongly urge anyone who is looking for an all- around theater experience, don't hesitate to attend Ful-Mont Rep's next show at the Glove Performing Arts Center. You will not be disappointed.
