John F. West of Fonda, 66, passed away May 29, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born to Burton and Elma Jane West in Jamestown, N.Y., on April 16th, 1947. John attended Randolph Central School in Randolph, New York. He graduated with degrees from Mount Union College, Kent State University, and SUNY at Albany. John married Kathryn Lindquist on July 6, 1968. He spent the majority of his career with the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District as a physical education teacher, coach and middle school principal for 14 years. As a coach, John led championship teams in football, baseball, and wrestling. John's interests included spending time with family, building projects, golfing, and following the Pittsburgh Pirates.
John is survived by Kathryn, his wife of 45 years. John and Kathy have two daughters, Julia Ruth Susi, married to Jeffrey Susi, and Janine Alicia Nelsen, married to Douglas Nelsen. John has five grandchildren, Charles John Susi and John Thorsen Nelsen, his namesakes, Ella Carolyn Nelsen, Joseph Jeffrey Susi, and Clara Beatrice Nelsen. He is survived by two sisters, Barbara West and Mary Jane Anderson; a brother, Jeffrey West; a niece, Audrey Anderson; and four nephews, Dylan Huig, Erik Huig, Logan West, John Archer West, and Isaiah Anderson. He was predeceased by his parents, Elma Jane and Burton West; and a nephew, Aaron Anderson.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, at the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District high school auditorium.
