FONDA - Danny Varin held off a late-race charge from Stewart Friesen to pick up his first feature win of the season in the 30-lap modified main event Saturday night at Fonda Speedway.

Joining Varin with feature wins Saturday were John McAuliffe (602 sportsman), Dennis Joslin (pro stock), Rob VanAernam (street stock) and Ken and Kerrie Hollenbeck won the dual and single cam cylinder main events.

Todd Morey held the early lead in the modified feature before Elmo Reckner slipped past on lap seven. Reckner's lead was short-lived as Jeff Trombley took the point on lap nine.

Varin was on the move and overtook Trombley with 11 laps to go. Friesen made a late race move, but could not catch Varin before the checkers fell over his hood.

Trombley finished third with Jimmy Davis fourth and Matt DeLorenzo fifth.

Chris Schaffer set the early pace in the 20-lap 602 sportsman main event before Farone found his way to the front on lap 16.

McAuliffe also found his way around Schaffer in the closing laps but had to settle for second. Schaffer was third with Ricky Quick fourth and Rocky Warner fifth.

McAuliffe was awarded the victory after Farone's car came up light on the scales in post-race tech.

Dennis Joslin picked up his first career pro stock feature win Saturday.

Kenny Gates overcame a first-lap wreck and charged back through the field but came up short at the finish. Ivan Joslin placed third with Pete Broderson fourth and Chuck Dumblewski fifth.

VanAernam hit the finish line first in the street stock feature, snapping Reuben Kennedy's three-race winning streak.

Racing returns to the speedway next Saturday with the ESS sprint cars joining the race card for the Memorial Day Weekend festivities.
