A group of teenage students from Barcelona, Spain, are looking for host families in Schoharie, Fulton, Montgomery and Schenectady counties for four weeks this summer.
Global Friendships, the organization coordinating the foreign exchange program, said the teenagers are scheduled to visit at the end of June until the end of July.
This is the first time Global Friendships will be hosting students in the Capital Region, a news release said.
The students come with their own spending money and medical insurance, can share a room with another teenager and are accompanied by a group chaperone, the release said. Potential host families can choose the student they want to live with them. Potential host families also are subject to an interview by the local GF coordinator and must provide references. This procedure is set up to ensure the safety of the students, the release said.
"The students coming from Spain are here to experience the American way of life," the release said. The students are expected to chip-in with minor chores around the house, the release said.
