Maria Tindara (Leotta) Saltsman

Maria Tindara (Leotta) Saltsman, 71, passed away on May 18, 2013, at Ellis Hospital ICU with her loving family by her side. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was born April 13, 1942, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, N.Y. Maria was united in marriage September 15, 1961, to Glenn Paul Saltsman of Fonda, N.Y. She had 51 wonderful years with her husband who gave her so much. Maria attended both Wheelerville School and Johnstown School. She worked at BOCES with special needs children and it was the love of her life. She worked in a classroom with Joan Nellis who was a very good teacher and always treated her as an equal. Maria loved animals and especially her loveable Shi-Tzu, Scuttles, who gave her 17 years of companionship. She loved to go for a ride on Glenn's motorcycle and together they would go to car shows with their 1969 Mercury Cyclone. Family was very important to Maria and her grandchildren and great-granddaughter were the loves of her life and brought her great joy.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn Paul Saltsman; her children, Jennifer Carelli (Peter); Kurt Saltsman (Sharon) and Nancy Saltsman; a brother, Rick Leotta.

Maria was predeceased by her sisters, Vincy Hodge, Carmie Butler and Joan Luft; a brother, Joe Leotta.

Special thanks goes out to her son, Kurt Saltsman; her daughters, Jennifer Carelli and Nancy Saltsman; her brother-in-law, Arnold Saltsman; and her close friends, Joan Nellis and Marion DiGiacomo.

The family invited relatives and friends to attend a calling period from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, N.Y. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Immediately following all services, an interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, N.Y.
