LAKE PLEASANT - Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently announced Hamilton County will receive $144,472 as one of 11 counties landing grants to upgrade their emergency call centers.
Cuomo announced $9 million in Public Safety Answering Point grants. PSAPs are call centers responsible for answering emergency calls and dispatching police, fire or ambulance emergency services to the public.
"These grants provide critical support to local governments to improve, streamline and consolidate emergency communications systems," Cuomo said in a news release.
Fulton and Montgomery counties launched their own PSAP project in 2010. That $603,659 project, using state funds, also was designed to improve the 911 emergency calling systems in those counties. The new system allowed the two counties to work together in a communications link for the first time.
