Lawsuit: Hot coffee injured, disabled man

JOHNSTOWN - A city man is suing the Stewart Shops Corp. because he claims a store in Fonda was negligent in spilling hot coffee on him last summer.

Raymond Sanders of Maple Knoll Apartments, 16 North East Ave. - represented by Gloversville attorney George Abdella - filed a lawsuit Monday in state Supreme Court in Johnstown.

His complaint states he was at the Stewart's Shop at 38 W. Main St., Fonda, on Sept. 15 purchasing a cup of coffee. The lawsuit says an employee dropped a hot pot of coffee on the counter where Sanders was located and the contents splashed on him, causing "serious injury." No monetary amount in damages was specified by Abdella.

The lawsuit said the incident rendered Sanders "disabled," with permanent injuries for which he currently and in the future will have to submit to medical treatment and pay "large sums of money."
