H.S. Softball Roundup: FFCS splits doubleheader

FONDA - The Fonda-Fultonville softball team split a Colonial Council softball doubleheader Saturday with Albany Academy.

Fonda-Fultonville won the second game 7-1 after losing the first game 7-0.

In the first game, Carylann Geddes had two singles, a double and a home run for Albany Academy.

Mia DiCaprio added a double for Albany Academy.

Becca Smith pitched a one-hitter for Albany Academy, striking out 11 and walking none to earn the complete-game victory.

Allyson Putnam had a single for Fonda-Fultonville's lone hit.

In the second game, Cassandra Egelston pitched a three-hitter to earn the complete-game win for FFCS. Egelston struck out two and walked two for the Lady Braves.

Fonda-Fultonville (4-7 overall, 4-7 Colonial) scored six times in the seventh inning to earn the victory.

Egelston had three singles for the Lady Braves, while Jenna Hutchins had a double and two RBIs. Monica Derby added an RBI and a single for FFCS, and Cory Lais finished with a single and a double.

Smith took the loss for Albany Academy, striking out 11 and walking none.

JOHNSTOWN - Lexi Swatt went 4-for-4 with a grand slam and a three-run home run to power Johnstown to a win over Berne-Knox-Westerlo.

Swatt finished the game with nine RBIs for the Lady Bills, who had 10 hits in the game, which was shortended to five innings by the mercy rule.

Lindsay Brandt was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Johnstown (6-8 overall), while Briana Esposito was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Alyssa Palmateer pitched a two-hitter to earn the win in the circle. Palmateer struck out seven, walked one and hit a batter in five innings of work.

WESTMORELAND - Westmoreland scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally for a win over Dolgeville.

The Blue Devils slipped to 1-11 overall with the loss.

Schoharie 4, Mayfield 0

MAYFIELD - Sydney Foland pitched a four-hitter, leading Schoharie to a shutout win over Mayfield on Friday.

Foland struck out 11 and walked one on her way to the complete-game win. Foland also had two singles for the Indians (7-4 WAC), while Gabby Danthine added a single and a triple.

Anna Husain had two singles for Mayfield (10-2 overall, 9-2 WAC), while Mackenzie Biggers and Jen Little each had singles.

Husain took the loss in the circle, allowing seven hits, striking out 10 and walking two.

Galway 17, Sharon Springs 0

GALWAY - Felicia Snyder pitched a no-hitter, leading Galway past Sharon Springs on Friday.

Snyder also added a pair of singles at the plate for the Golden Eagles (4-10 overall, 4-5 WAC), while Sabrina Williams had a single, double and a triple.

Shelby Suits had two singles for Galway, Rebekah Riechard had a triple and Ariann Ceroalo had a double.

Sharon Springs slipped to 1-8 in WAC play with the loss.
