H.S. Baseball Roundup: Canajoharie defeats Mayfield, 3-1

CANAJOHARIE - Joe Winsman threw a three-hitter, leading Canajoharie to a 3-1 win over Mayfield in a Western Athletic Conference baseball game Wednesday.

Winsman struck out 10 and walked none to earn the complete-game victory.

Winsman also went 1-for-2 at the plate for the Cougars (5-2 overall, 5-2 WAC), while Zach Ruszkowski was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Matt Messina doubled for Mayfield (3-7 overall, 2-6 WAC), while Ryan Hennessy and Austin Lair each had singles.

Fort Plain 6, St. Johnsville 2

FORT PLAIN - Marcus Failing improved to 3-0 on the season, pitching a five-hitter to lead Fort Plain past St. Johnsville.

Failing stuck out 11 and walked three to earn the complete-game win for the Hilltoppers.

Fort Plain (7-0 overall, 7-0 WAC) scored four times in the sixth inning on its way to the win.

Trent Douglas had a single and two RBIs for the Hilltoppers, while Chris Hanifin had a single and an RBI.

Dakota Nemecek singled, doubled and scored a run for Fort Plain.

Dylan Klock and John Vicciarelli each had two singles and an RBI for St. Johnsville (3-4 overall, 2-4 WAC). Payten Johnson added a single for the Saints.

Fort Plain is slated to travel to Galway today, while St. Johnsville will host Canajoharie today at 4:30 p.m.

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Cameron Coons went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs to lead Saratoga Central Catholic to a win over Galway.

Sean Hart was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for the Saints (6-1 overall, 6-0 WAC).

Shaw also had a single and an RBI for the Braves (4-2 overall, 4-1 Colonial), while Anthony Sinicropi also had a single and an RBI.

Kevin Myers and Baylee Hall each had two singles for Fonda-Fultonville.

Pierce Reilly, Alec Reeves and Anthony Barnes all had singles for Ichabod Crane.

AMSTERDAM - CBA jumped out to an 8-0 lead, scoring four times in both the first and second innings, before holding off a late rally by Amsterdam.

Zach DeThomasis had a three-run double for Christian Brothers Academy, while Alex Koshgarian added home run.

Chase Crawford hit a two-run homer for CBA.

Andrew Rouse hit a two-run home run for the Rams (5-5 overall, 4-4 Big 10).

Amsterdam will host Colonie in a non-league game on?Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Shuttleworth Park.

OLMSTEDVILLE - Matt Michenzi had a solo home run, a single, two runs scored and an RBI to lead Wells to a Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference victory over Minerva-Newcomb.

After allowing three runs in each of the first two innings, Wells pitcher Seth Weaver kept the Mountaineers scoreless over the final five innings.

Weaver struck out 15, walked six and allowed five hits on his way to the complete-game victory.

Adrian Collado had two hits and four RBIs for the Indians (2-1 overall, 2-1 MVAC), while Caleb Hayes had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Justin Viele had a double and a single for Minerva-Newcomb (1-4 overall, 1-4 MVAC).

Wells is slated to host Willsboro on Friday at 4;30 p.m.
