AMES - Volunteer firefighters responded to a blaze that destroyed a Latimer Road mobile home Sunday, leaving three people homeless.
Alan Dean, chief of the village's Volunteer Fire Department, said the fire began around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
"By the time the fire department got there, it was fully involved," he said.
Dean said two people were in the home at the time of the fire. The smell of smoke awoke one of the occupants, and both people escaped the fire.
Dean said no injuries were reported. The Red Cross provided aid to three people after the fire.
The fire destroyed the mobile home, but firefighters were able to save the adjacent garage.
The cause of the fire has not been determined by investigators, Dean said.
Dean said no fire alarms were installed in the home.
Alongside the Ames department, volunteers from Canajoharie, Charleston and Rural Grove fire departments responded to the scene.
