Stewart A. Vogel Sr., 69, of Gloversville, N.Y. passed away April 8, 2013, at the Nathan Littauer Hospital following a long illness. He was born March 14, 1944, in Amsterdam, N.Y., the son of the late Harry and Florence Russ Vogel. Stewart served his country two years in the Army. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze service stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter (Rifle).
He attended Canajoharie High School and later earned his GED. He also completed a two-year course in BOCES with the highest honor. He loved and grew up working on a dairy farm. He also worked for Coleco Industry and other factory jobs.
Stewart was an avid NASCAR race fan. Kasey Kahne was his favorite driver. He also loved joking around with the ladies at Kingsboro Towers coffee hour. He said he had to keep them on their toes.
Survivors include two sons, Stewart A. Vogel Jr. (Ann Marie) and Rob Labarge; three daughters, Amy Garren (Barton), Melissa Bushey (Matt) and Sherry Love; two sisters, Barbara Ouderkirk and Beverly Campbell (Steve); several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend, Charlotte Myers.
He was predeceased by his brother, Harry Vogel Jr.; and his sister, Leona Pimkowski. He was also predeceased by Bruce Vogel, who was like a brother to him.
There will be no calling hours. A military funeral was held for the family and friends at the Fort Plain Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611.
