GLOVERSVILLE - The city Planning Board this week approved plans for a building connection for Life Saver Ministries at 16 E. Pine St.
The organization provides counseling services for pregnant women and life-enrichment classes to about 75 local men and women, Client Services Director Anne Morgan said.
The ministry owns two adjacent buildings at 14 and 16 E. Pine St. and plans to combine the two to create additional space in one of the buildings for storage.
The project will involve the construction of a 590-square-foot addition to connect an adjacent residential building with the brick building currently used for the counseling center.
The work is expected to start this spring.
The ministry provided the spot elevations in relation to the Cayadutta Creek and noted a maximum of 10 staff and volunteers could work in the building at a given time. It also noted in its plans there will be a dual 100-watt flood light on motion sensor on the rear portion of the addition. An area light will be on the east side of the building along the gravel driveway.
The board unanimously approve the plans.
In another city Planning Board matter, the board this week scheduled a May 7 public hearing on a permit to allow city resident Richard Ruby to convert a commercial building at 47-49 Spring St. into a single-family residence.
As part of the project, a portion of the existing parking lot would be removed and converted to a grass lawn with landscaping.
Ruby also wants to have a 4-foot black aluminum fence installed around the perimeter of the lot, according to documents.
The Fulton County Planning Department reviewed the application and decided sufficient information was provided by Ruby.
The city last month rezoned the property from manufacturing to residential.
The zoning change included six properties on the block: 8 Frontage Road, 49 Spring St., 83 Bleecker St., 40 Church St., 30 Church St. and 52 Church St.
Permit change approved
The board issued a special permit amendment for the Casey Plaza Apartments at 42-44 S. Main St.
On Nov. 6, 2007, Susan Casey received a conditional special permit approval from the Planning Board for the creation of one retail storefront and 13 apartments on the three floors.
Casey wants permission to use the retail storefront as office space instead, requiring approval from the board.
City Building Inspector Rob Robbins said with the site being a business office rather than retail, it would have less traffic.
The board tabled discussion of the periodic review of the zoning ordinance for next month because they were told by city officials that more changes are coming.
Each year, the Planning Board is supposed to re-examine the provisions of the zoning ordinance and the location of district boundary lines, and submit a report to the Common Council recommending changes or amendments.
