GLOVERSVILLE - City Attorney Anthony Casale told the Common Council during its meeting March 26 that the owners of the former Captain Video building, located at 36 Fourth Ave., would like the zoning to be changed to give them more options for the site.
Casale said the zoning for the side of the street where the building is located is residential and the opposite side of the street is zoned residential commercial. He said the owners are looking to renovate the building, but if it was renovated for commercial use it would provide more options for the owners.
"Because of the size of the building and the way it is, there is very little prospects for it be developed as a residential property," Casale said. "Since it is on the borderline of the zoning district it is not spot zoning, so we can extend the other zone across the street and it will increase the options for the Captain Video building and shouldn't have any effect on the other properties on that side of the street."
He said the owners haven't determined what the building will be used for, but the change would increase their options.
The council scheduled a public hearing on the proposed ordinance change for its next meeting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in City Hall.
