JOHNSTOWN - The Fulton County Highways and Facilities Department has been busy lately, including doing some painting for the county court system's facilities.

The department has been involved in several projects at several government buildings, Highways and Facilities Superintendent Mark Yost told the Board of Supervisors' Buildings and Grounds-Highway Committee last week.

"We've been painting offices for the courts," Yost stated.

Other facilities work by county workers recently has included a project on a county Public Health Department wall and cleaning air conditioner filters, Yost said.

Highway work by county crews recently has included snow and ice removal, cutting trees and brush on county roads, repairing guiderails, patching potholes and culverts, and traffic sign repair and replacement.

Help for others by his department included assistance to the city of Johnstown in taking down trees, Yost reported. Help from others to the county included help with plowing from the towns of Johnstown, Mayfield and Bleecker, he said.

Yost also presented the committee with a proposed resolution awarding numerous contracts for purchase of various highway construction materials. Bids were open three different days in March. Contracts will be in effect from May to April 30, 2014.

The committee approved the list of low bidders, which is still subject to final approval by the full board Monday.

Among materials bid for were: pavement markings, concrete, patching material, corrugated metal and polyethylene pipe, crushed stone and gravel, abrasives and lubricants.
