JOHNSTOWN - A man found unconscious by city police along Route 30A on Monday who later died at Nathan Littauer Hospital has been identified by authorities.

Police Chief Mark Gifford on Thursday identified the man as Peter A. Babb, 53, of Rutland, Vt. He said the man's relatives have been notified.

He said toxicology reports on the man, who underwent an autopsy Tuesday afternoon at Nathan Littauer Hospital, aren't completed yet.

Gifford said an officer was driving on Route 30A, near Key Bank, when he encountered the unconscious Babb near the road about 12:30 p.m. Monday. Babb was rushed by ambulance to the Gloversville hospital, where he died.

Police said Babb's death is not suspicious. His birthday was Monday, the day he died, police records show.
