Sea Rams compete at Adirondack Gold Short Course Championships

TROY - A total of 14 Amsterdam Sea Rams youth swimmers participated in the Adirondack Gold Short Course Championships, which is also known as the Junior Olympics, on March 10 and March 15-17 at the Robison Pool at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Swimmers were limited to swim in three events and a relay per day, but many of the swimmers actually qualified for more individual events.

In the boys 8-and-younger age group, Tim Lin placed 14th in the 50 backstroke with a time of 49.09 seconds.

In the boys 9-10 age group, Jonas Barkevich placed 27th in the 50 backstroke in 42.32 seconds and 33rd in the 50 freestyle in 37.05 seconds. Daniel Dylong placed 12th in the 50 butterfly in 41.56 seconds, 14th in the 100 breaststroke in 1.41.84, 16th in the 50 breaststroke in 47.34 seconds, 17th in the 50 backstroke in 40.92 seconds, 22nd in the 100 individual medley in 1.29.23 and 29th in the 50 freestyle in 35.73 seconds. Trevor Dzikowicz placed seventh in 500 freestyle in 7:20.01, ninth in the 50 freestyle in 32.75 seconds, ninth in the 100 freestyle in 1:11.52, 11th in the 100 backstroke in 1:27.42, 17th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:43.67, 17th in the 50 breaststroke in 47.61 seconds, 18th in 50 backstroke in 40.96 seconds, 18th in the 100 individual medley in 1:27.84, and 19th in the 50 butterfly in 45.69 seconds. Evan Iannuzzi placed 20th in the 50 breaststroke in 47.92 seconds and 31st in the 50 backstroke in 43.55 seconds. Malick Ousman placed 11th in the 100 individual medley in 1:24.99, 13th in the 500 freestyle in 8:16.86, 14th in the 50 breaststroke in 46.73 seconds, 14th in the 100 backstroke in 1:28.43, 17th in the 50 freestyle in 34.08 seconds, 19th in the 50 backstroke in 41.17, and 20th in the 100 freestyle in 1:17.69.

In the girls 11-12 age group, Brianna Ziobro placed 32nd in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:33.50 and 43rd in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 43.69 seconds.

In the girls 13-14 age group, Kayla Dzikowicz placed 25th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:57.50, 27th in 100 breaststroke in 1:21.11 and 51st in the 100 freestyle in 1:02.83. Erica Wagner placed 13th in the 200 butterfly in 2:37.20, 25th in 100 freestyle in 59.22 seconds, 25th in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.45, 31st in the 200 freestyle in 2:10.54, 35th in the 200 individual medley in 2:33.07, and 40th in the 100 backstroke in 1:12.49.

In the boys 13-14 age group, Trevor Askew placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.93 and fifth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:32.72.

In the women's senior 15-and-older age group, Erica Askew placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.33, fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:29.82, sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:18.10, 22nd in the 50 freestyle in 26.85 seconds, 24th in the 100 freestyle in 58.02 seconds, 24th in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.27, and 30th in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.95. Jordan Hammons placed 47th in the 200 backstroke in 2:31.74.

In the men's senior 15-and-older age group, Tyler Askew placed 12th in the 200 butterfly in 2:12.59, 21st in the 100 butterfly in 58.97 seconds, 41st in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.73, 55th in the 50 freestyle in 26.40 seconds, 58th in the 100 freestyle in 55.65 seconds. Matt Swart placed 48th in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.98, 51st in the 50 freestyle in 25.30 seconds, and 51st in the 100 freestyle in 54.92 seconds.

The boys 10-and-younger relay team of Barkevich, Dylong, Trevor Dzikowicz and Ousman placed third in the 400 freestyle relay. Dylong, Trevor Dzikowicz, Iannuzzi and Ousman placed fourth in the 200 free relay, and seventh in the 400 medley relay.

The women's senior 15-and older relay team of Erica Askew, Kayla Dzikowicz, Hammons and Wagner placed 13th in both the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays, and 15th in the 400 freestyle relay.

The Amsterdam Sea Rams placed 13th overall out of 24 teams. The swimmers are coached by Mike Schanthal, Jef Martin and Marie Thomas.

Erica Askew qualified for the 2013 USA Speedo Championships, which took place this weekend at the Erie Community College Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo.
