Eleanor M. Sweeney

Eleanor M. Sweeney, age 83 of Ephratah, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at her residence after a long illness.

She was born in Ephratah on June 12, 1929, the daughter of the late Leland Rickard and Florence Saltsman Rickard.

Eleanor was a lifelong resident of Ephratah and a graduate of Johnstown High School, Class of 1948.

Eleanor was employed at Glove Craft prior to raising her children. She then provided child care in her home for many years before working at Johnstown Knitting Mill until her retirement. Eleanor was a member of the Ephratah Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, the Home Bureau and the Western Fulton County Senior Center. She enjoyed crafts, knitting afghans and making quilts.

Mrs. Sweeney is survived by her husband Leland Sweeney who she married on June 25, 1950, one son Randall L. Sweeney and his wife Deborah of Fairport, one daughter Rachelle Houser and her husband Mark of Minoa; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 25 at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown with the Dr. Rev. R.W. Williams officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, March 24 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Spring burial will be in Ephratah Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
