JOHNSTOWN - The Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education voted unanimously last week to put the purchase of three new district buses up for public referendum May 21.
The purchase will be considered that day along with the vote on the district's annual budget for the 2013-14 school year.
Voters will see a proposition to authorize the purchase of three 66-passenger school buses during the 2013-14 school year at a cost not to exceed $343,165.
In other action, the board voted 8-1 to nominate former board member Joanne Freeman to sit on the Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery Board of Cooperative Educational Services Board of Education. Only board member Douglas Dougherty voted against the nomination.
On the recommendation of Superintendent Robert DeLilli, the board voted to accept an $1,800 donation from the Johnstown Music Support Group. Funds are intended to fund end-of-the-year awards and supplies for the district Music Department.
The board decided it wanted to continue the district's Summer Food Service Program for another year after hearing a brief report from school Business Manager Alice Sise. She told the board the program lost $850 last year. But the board decided the program was a good one and decided to fill out an application with the state to run the program again.
In personnel matters, the board appointed these election inspectors for the May 21 election and budget vote: Johnstown High School - Bonnie Dostal, Patricia Bender, Joanne Blair; and Ephratah firehouse - Hazel Prall, Darlene Terricola and Denise Duesler.
The board accepted the resignation of bus driver Christopher Olson, effective Feb. 19.
Leaves of absence were granted to: special education teacher Katrina Canallatos, from April 18 to June 3; and health teacher Kristy Lynch-Herringshaw, from June 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014.
It was noted the board's Facilities Committee - consisting of Dougherty, Mark Ward and Kathryn Zajicek - will meet at 6 p.m. today at Johnstown High School.
