AMSTERDAM - Two women were killed and four people injured in a two-car accident on Route 67 in the town Sunday.
Two of the injured - a 2-year-old and a 9-year-old - were flown to Albany Medical Center Hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Tanya Sleight, 33, and Chyara Concepion, 38, of Amsterdam, were killed, Investigator Joseph Kilmartin said this afternoon.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Sleight, the other woman and three children, ages 2, 7 and 9, were heading west on Route 67 about 6 p.m. David Bain, 68, was driving east in a van.
Authorities said Bain crossed into the westbound side, colliding with Sleight's vehicle.
Deputies said Sleight and the other woman were declared dead at the scene.
The conditions of the 2-year-old and 9-year-old flown to Albany Medical Center were unavailable this morning.
Bain and the 7-year-old were taken to St. Mary's Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Kilmartin said Bain consented to a blood screen for alcohol and drugs, which will be sent to the state police for evaluation
According to deputies, an investigation is ongoing. No charges were filed as of this morning.
The Hagaman Fire Department, the Cranesville Fire Department and the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps assisted at the scene.
Authorities provided no further information this morning.
