Isabelle "Izzy" Elaine Sherman grew her angel wings on March 6, 2013, after a hard-fought battle with Mitochondrial disease. Izzy was born on April 16, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam and her last moments were spent at her home in Gloversville, surrounded by her loving family.
In her short 10-month life, Izzy touched and inspired thousands. A Facebook page (www.facebook.com/helpisabellegrow) chronicled Izzy's fight with Mito disease- from the early months when there were more questions than answers, through the multiple hospital stays punctuated by Izzy's smiles and giggles, to her final days spent at home immersed in the love of her family.
The Sherman family wishes to thank the amazing medical staff at Albany Medical Center, as well as the almost 60,000 online "Team Izzy" members who provided support, donations, prayers, gifts and kind words for the family and for Izzy. The kindness of so many strangers was truly overwhelming. Everyone who came in contact with Izzy spoke about her big, beautiful eyes and huge smile that could light up a room. Even through the rough days, Izzy's sunny personality always shone through.
Izzy is survived by her parents, Kenneth and Stephanie Sherman; her brothers, Daymeon Plaskett, Caydan Plaskett and Kenneth Sherman Jr.; her grandparents, William and Melanie Cromling, Clarence Sherman and Janet Riffle; and by her "Team Izzy," her Facebook extended family.
A celebration of Izzy's life will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, where friends may gather after 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be sent to the funeral home in her name. If you wish to leave a message for the family, please visit www.brbsfuneral.com.
