Leon K. Anderson

Leon K. Anderson, 67, of Coolidge Road, Amsterdam, passed away peacefully Friday morning, at his home, with his loving family at his bedside.

Born August 23, 1945, in Amsterdam, N.Y., he was the son of the late Leon B. and Ann Ratkewicz Anderson. Leon was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Perth High School in 1963 and later received an associate's degree in accounting from the Hartford Institute of Accounting in Hartford, Conn.

Leon was first employed in finance with Coleco Industries in Amsterdam. Later he worked as financial director for the Fulmont Community Action Agency in Fonda for a number of years, and for the past five years has been employed as the finance director for Centro Civico in Amsterdam until retiring in December of 2012 due to ill health.

Leon was a parishioner and served as usher for the former St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church. He took great pride in his house and property. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining for his family and friends and he loved spending time with his three grandchildren.

On May 11, 1990, he married the former Mary Jo Condello. Besides his wife, he is survived by: a son, Leon J. "L.J." Anderson (Karla) of Johnstown; a daughter, Leanna C. Anderson of Amsterdam; a stepson Michael V. Dunn (Melissa) of Latham; a stepdaughter, Maria E. Dunn and her fiance, Christopher Bardequez of Amsterdam; a sister, Cassandra Anderson of Florida; three grandchildren, Claire, Emily and Sofia.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013, at 11:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, St. John Street, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Pascal Iannotti as celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, N.Y. Cremation will take place at Vale Cemetery Crematorium in Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny's Corners Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, 427 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
