The Leader Herald

CANAJOHARIE - The opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" will be performed at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Upstate Chapel - the former Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 63 Cliff St.

The family-friendly opera, written by Gian Menotti and produced by Patrick Calleo, is performed in English and tells the story of the three kings stopping by a poor family's home on their way to Bethlehem, according to a news release.

Admission will be by free-will donation, according to a news release.

Calleo is from the Cooperstown area and is a retired professional opera singer.

"His goal is to bring high-quality musical performances to the upstate New York area," a news release said.

The cast includes about 20 people ranging in age from 9 to their 70s. The accompanist will be a student from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester.
