Outhouse races a success

March 1, 2013
The Leader Herald

On Feb. 17, we walked on water as the town of Caroga brought back outhouse races to West Caroga Lake.

Spectators and participants braved the cold for what turned out to be a magnificent day. We would like to give a special thank you to the AMEC for joining us with their ice-racing championships. Thank you to Miss Fulton County Katelynn Smith for spending part of the day with us. To all the fishermen who participated in the ice fishing contest, it was great to see you. It was wonderful to have the kids from Wheelerville Union?Free School save the day with their "delux" hot chocolate booth. Thank you to the school as well for the use of the hockey nets; the kids had a blast. Thank you to The Coffee Shop, 1 Cook & A Waitress and Canada Lake Store for the raffle donations. Thank you to Royal Mountain Ski Center for the donation of the flags. Thank you to the Fulton-Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce for its support.

Special appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. George Abdella for hosting this event.

To town Supervisor Ralph Ottuso, the town highway department, Dick Putman and Dave Hockey, a huge thank you for preparing the ice. To all who participated and worked so hard for this event, it could not have happened without you. I cannot wait until next year.
