On Thursday, the Lady Braves posted a 55-54 win over Watervliet in their regular-season finale. Watervliet is seeded first in the Class B tournament and ranked fifth in Class B in the latest New York State Sportswriters Association poll.
"We had a huge win last night," Waters said. "We're really feeling good about ourselves right now."
With its win over Cairo-Durham, Fonda-Fultonville (9-10 overall) advanced to face third-seeded Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk (12-6 overall) on Tuesday in Ravena at 6 p.m. The Lady Indians defeated FFCS on Jan. 8, 66-52, in Ravena.
"[Ravena] beat us early in the year. They're a very good team," Waters said.
To earn their rematch, the Lady Braves had to play for the third time in four nights.
FFCS led 18-9 after one quarter as Wetsky and Parslow combined to score 11 points in the opening frame for the Lady Braves. Selner paced the Mustangs with five first-quarter points.
'We got off to a little bit of a slow start," Waters said. "We were up eight or nine and it seemed like it should have been more."
The lead continued to grow in the second quarter as FFCS opened the frame with an 8-2 surge to push its lead to 26-11.
Cairo-Durham scored five straight points to cut its deficit to 10 before the Lady Braves scored the final basket of the quarter to make it 28-16 at the half.
"They play in a different class of league than us," Cairo-Durham coach Keith Phillips said. "[Fonda-Fultonville] is a good team and they play in a tough league."
The Lady Braves quickly put the game out of reach early in the second half, using a 10-2 run to surge to a 38-18 advantage.
FFCS led 44-22 after three quarters and had eight of its nine players score at least one point in the period.
It was more of the same in the final frame as the Lady Braves limited the Mustangs to just four points, while scoring 17 to finish the game with a 35-point advantage.
The comfortable win was welcomed by Waters, whose team has won six of its last seven games.
"I knew with our record we were at risk of playing in a play-in game," Waters said. "My kids would rather play than practice, so it was good to get a game in under our belt before the real thing on Tuesday."
Cairo-Durham finishes its season with a 7-12 overall record.
"We played hard the whole way," Phillips said. "Win or lose all I can as for is for us to play hard, and we did that tonight."
