Alan ‘Stuie’ D. Stewart

Mr. Alan "Stuie" D. Stewart, 69, of 1534 County Highway 107, Amsterdam, N.Y., and of Bullhead City, Ariz., passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013, with his loving wife at his side at Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nev., following a long illness.

He was born on May 3, 1943, in Gloversville, son of the late Alvah and Margaret (Sweet) Stewart.

He worked at the Fulton County Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator from July 22, 1965 to Oct. 6, 1996 and at the NYS Thruway as a toll collector from December 1994 to May 2005. He enlisted in the Army 1965 to 1967. He graduated from Johnstown High School in 1962. He was a diehard Boston Red Sox fan and loved to play poker. He had the opportunity to play in the 2012 Senior World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

He was a member of the Concordia Club.

He had a special fondness for his dog, Zac, who passed away.

Alan was married to Marie Thomas Stewart May 8, 1990, who survives. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon (Bob) Abel of Parrish, Fla.; a son, Jeffrey; and cousins also survive.

Cremation took place at Sunrise Cremation & Burial Society, Henderson, Nev. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats, Fonda, N.Y. A Celebration of Life for his family and many friends will also be held in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to NY Oncology, 1700 Riverfront Center, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or a charity of your choice.
