Johnstown alpine skiers compete at Royal Mountain

CAROGA LAKE - The Johnstown alpine ski team turned in a solid showing Saturday at the Johnstown Invitational at Royal Mountain Ski Area.

In the first run of the two-run boys slalom race, Saratoga Springs' Kieran Mottau posted the fastest time of 38.37 seconds.

Christian Brothers Academy's P.J. Kotecki (38.93 seconds) was second and Glens Falls' Pat Burton (39.05) was third.

Joel Levin posted the top time of the first run for Johnstown, covering the course in a time of 44.29 seconds.

Nick Salatel (52.41) was 24th for the Sir Bills, while Colin Dalmata (56.21) was 27th. Zack Simone (57.66) was 29th for Johnstown, Lukas Levin (57.92) was 30th, and Austin Stergas (1:10.39) was 45th. Noah Western failed to complete his first run for the Sir Bills.

CBA's Michael Merecki posted the quickest time in the second run at 38.03 seconds, while Stillwater's Theodore Korenowski (39.63) was second. Glens Falls' Pat Burton (39.97) was third.

Dalmata led Johnstown, placing sixth in the second run with a time of 43.12 seconds. Joel Levin (45.29) was 10th for the Sir Bills, while Lukas Levin (50.95) was 17th.

Simone (1:08.30) was 26th for Johnstown and Stergas (1:35.74) was 34th. Salatel failed to finish his second run for the Sir Bills, while Western was disqualified.

In the girls two-run slalom race, Queensbury's Katie Zilka posted the fastest first-run time at 41.73 seconds.

Albany Academy's Alex MacAffer (43.71) was second and Queensbury's Olivia Paolano (44.15) was third.

Sara Kosowicz led Johnstown, placing ninth in the first run with a time of 46.53 seconds. Serena Smith (1:00.45) was 26th for the Lady Bills, Reilly Kotwasinski (1:01.70) was 28th, Emily Havlicek (1:02.69) was 29th, Whitney Western (1:05.69) was 37th, Helaina Stergas (1:06.82) was 38th and Hannah Keener (1:10.71) was 44th.

In the second run, Shenendehowa's Kirsten Kruk recorded the fastest time of 42.66 seconds. Queensbury's Zilka (43.14) was second and Albany Academy's MacAffer (44.57) was third.

Serena Smith led Johnstown, placing 35th with a time of 1:25.96. Stergas (1:27.69) was 38th, Kotwasinski (1:30.01) was 39th and Western (1:49.78) was 45th.

Kosowicz, Keener and Havlicek failed to finish their second runs for the Lady Bills.
