MAYFIELD - The Bannertown 50 Plus Club met Jan. 23. Before the Office for the Aging luncheon, Patrick Keane led devotions, and the reading, "Facing Tomorrow" was followed by "The Lord's Prayer."

President Carl Edwards led in the Pledge of Allegiance to open the meeting. He asked Linda LaVada to call the roll. There were 18 members present.

Jane Bonfey is unable to continue her duties as the sunshine chairman. Edwards asked for a volunteer to fill the position. Sherin Akey offered her services.

The reports of Beverly Burton, secretary, and Joan Bezio, treasurer, were accepted as given. Bezio, trip chairwoman, reported she and Lorrie Valk will be attending the travel show in February. They will bring back day trips from which the club will choose three or four.

Evie Leach, who volunteers for the Fulmont Community Action Committee, gave out information regarding a free tax preperation service for seniors. Call for an appointment early.

After a short discussion of the door prize, a motion was made to increase the amount per-person, per-meeting to 50 cents.

Leach will be the attendance officer and cookie chairman for the New Year. The cookie committee for Feb. 6, will be Burton and Bezio.

The calender committee had made its activity plans for the year. Sue Wemple read the list and reminded members to bring a valentine for the drawing and a wrapped bag of candy for the candy grab bag. The candy should cost between two to three dollars. The party will be Wednesday.

Edwards read several of the thank-you letters sent to the club from the third-graders for the dictionaries that Bannertown and the Grange chipped in to purchase.

Edwards noted the Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage program, offered by the OFA, will take place Feb. 7.

After the meeting adjourned, the drawings were held. The winners were Wemple, the door prize and the 50-50, and Nancy Hayes, $1.
