JHS alpine teams compete at Gore

NORTH CREEK - The Johnstown boys and girls alpine ski team posted solid showings Monday at the Shenendehowa Invitational at Gore Mountain.

The race was a two-run giant slalom event.

Christian Brothers Academy's P.J. Kotecki posted the fastest time in the first run with a 1:12.56. Niskayuna's Ned Feist (1:12.73) was second and Niskayuna's Phillip Weeber (1:12.76) was third. CBA's Michael Merecki (1:13.43) was fourth and Saratoga Springs' Kieran Mottau (1:14.06) completed the top five.

Colin Dalmata posted the fastest time for Johnstown in the first run with a 1:17.56. Joel Levin (1:17.85) was 10th for the Sir Bills, while Zack Simone (1:30.13) was 39th. Nick Salatel (1:30.17) was 40th for Johnstown in the first run, Lukas Levin (1:34.65) was 46th, Noah Western (1:44.25) was 57th and Austin Stergas (1:59.60) was 60th.

Kotecki also won the second run, posting a time of 1:14.29. Weeber (1;14.46) was second, Mottau (1:14.97) was third, Feist (1:15.31) was fourth and Merecki (1:15.32) was fifth.

Joel Levin posted the fastest time for Johnstown in the second run, placing 11th with a time of 1:20.40. Dalmata (1:21.46) was 14th in the second run for the Sir Bills, Simone (1:32.90) was 35th, Salatel (1:33.75) was 37th, Lukas Levin (1:35.61) was 41st, Western (1:45.91) was 51st and Stergas (2:03.93) was 58th.

Niskayuna won the boys team title with a total of 64 points, while Saratoga Springs was second with 66. Queensbury (83 points) was third, CBA (92) was fourth and Albany Academy (109) was fifth. Johnstown was sixth with a total of 118 points.

In the girls race, Shenendehowa's Julia Smith posted the fastest time in the first run with a 1:15.59. Saratoga Springs' Sierra Spring (1:16.82) was second in the first run and Albany Academy's Elle Daly (1:17.62) was third.

Sara Kosowicz led Johnstown in the first run, placing 18th with a time of 1:26.55.

Serena Smith (1:35.68) was 33rd for the Lady Bills, Emily Havlicek (1:41.58) was 41st, Whitney Western (1:42.09) was 42nd, Reilly Kotwasinski (1:44.16) was 44th and Helaina Stergas (1:44.16) was 45th. Hannah Keener also competed for Johnstown, but failed to finish the first run.

Shenendehowa's Smith completed her sweep, posting the fastest time in the second run with a 1:16.92. Spring (1:18.48) was second and Daly (1:19.42) was third.

Keener led Johnstown, placing 24th in the second run with a 1:30.95. Serena Smith (1:37.15) was 36th for the Lady Bills and Havlicek (1:44.16) was 43rd. Kosowicz and Stergas failed to complete the second run for Johnstown, while Western was disqualified.

Queensbury won the girls team title with 33 points, while Shenendehowa was second with 43.5 points. Saratoga Springs (49.5) was third, Albany Academy (113.5) was fourth and Niskayuna (154) was fifth. Johnstown finished eighth with a total of 194.5 points.
