Carolyn (Subik) Stewart passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of January 16. Born on July 19, 1929, she was a graduate of Johnstown High School and the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. She married James E. Stewart on August 25, 1956.
A lifelong resident of Johnstown, Carolyn was an elementary school teacher early in her career, and then devoted her entire life to her husband and three children. She spent many years volunteering for the Wells Nursing Home Auxiliary and never missed a ski race, track meet, tennis match or any other activities involving her kids. She was a tried and true friend to many, and shared with all of us a unique zest for life.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, of 56 years, a current resident of Wells Nursing Home; and three loving children and their families, Jim, Kathy, Cameron and Ian Stewart of Mckees Rocks, Pennsylvania, Jane (Stewart) Broderick, Helen Martin and Will Broderick of Stuart, Florida, and Scot, Cathy and Daniel Stewart of Westford Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her brother, John Subik; and leaves behind members of extended family and many dear friends.
To those that knew her well, it comes as no surprise that she requested her body be donated to science and consequently there will be no formal service at this time. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 18th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Johnstown to show their appreciation of the friendship and support over the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice in her honor, or a directed donation in memory of Carolyn Stewart to Scripps Research Institute, 130 Scripps Way 4B2, Jupiter, Florida 34558 or www.scripps.edu/florida/philanthropy.
