County, CSEA to continue contract talks this month

January 10, 2013
By JOHN BORGOLINI , The Leader Herald

JOHNSTOWN - The Civil Service Employees Union and Fulton County are expected to continue discussing terms for a new contract Jan. 30 for the 285-member General Unit union, following a fact-finder's report that recommended the union workers receive salary increases in the contract for 2012 and 2013.

Fact-finder Gordon Mayo issued his final report - a suggested salary structure to reach a new contract - on Dec. 13.

CSEA Local 818 President Ron Briggs said his side has recently accepted the fact-finder's report, because it would help the workers and community.

"We don't necessarily agree with everything [in the report], but it seems in the best interest to move forward for our members and the taxpayers in a productive way," Briggs said.

The Fulton County Planning Board met Tuesday and discussed the contract in executive session.

After the meeting, County Administrative Officer Jon Stead said the board members made a motion to sponsor a resolution for a Feb. 11 public hearing - the same date as the Board of Supervisors' February meeting.

Briggs said he doesn't know what to expect at the Jan. 30 meeting, but he hopes it moves the issue along.

"We're just going to go in with an open mind with resolving this at some point," he said. "I would hope that we are close to a resolution, and I hope we can do it soon."
