Mr. Arnold H. Frederick, age 83, of Broadalbin, passed away Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013, at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.
He was born April 15, 1929, in Broadalbin, the son of the late James H. and Beatrice C. Steele Frederick. He was a graduate of the1946 class at Broadalbin Central School.
Arnold was a dairy farmer and later worker for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture as a soil conservationist from 1968 until 1989 in Fulton and Saratoga counties. He was also an artificial inseminator for livestock. From the 1970s until 1991 he was an owner/trainer of horses at Saratoga Harness Track.
He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin where he served on several committees and in many capacities. He served on the Perth Central School Board of Education from the late 1960s to the early 1970s.
Arnold was married to Louise Smith Frederick on December 31, 1949. She passed away on December 7, 1998. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Rena Dersch and infant, Geraldine; and by a granddaughter, Kristen Frederick.
Survivors include: six children, Harvey Frederick (Marlene) of Central Square, Elaine Ellis (Joseph) of Wylie, Texas, Bradley Frederick (Brenda) of Westminster, Colo., Claudia Hauser of Malta, Gary Frederick (Eileen) of Rotterdam and Marjorie Schulz of Amsterdam. Also surviving are: his half-brother, William Canfield (Sherry); 14 grandchildren, Jason, Andrea, Jonathan, Kyle, Justin and Ryan Frederick, Nathan and Brian Ellis, Sarah Ellis Worden, Amy Hauser Lyndaker, Brian Hauser, Matthew, Daniel and Kelsey Schulz; seven great-grandchildren, Brett and Ethan Ellis, Kaylee Lyndaker, Emily, Leah, Lauren and Lily Frederick. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, January 12, at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin, where a funeral service will follow at noon, with the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin, 54 W. Main St., Broadalbin, NY 12025 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
