Marilyn Burns passed away on January 6, 2013, after a short but tough battle with cancer.
Marilyn was born in Northville, N.Y. to Elizabeth McCullah and Hilliard Richards. The family moved to Gloversville, N.Y. where Marilyn attended school. She graduated from the University of Rochester.
She met her husband, Al while teaching at Irondequoit, a suburb of Rochester.
She is survived by: her husband, Al of fifty-three years; her son, Steve (Deidra); her son, Michael; her daughter, Jenny Lynn Pillen (Randy); and her three grandchildren, Gina Vitullo and Ryan and Allison Burns.
Marilyn was quite active at Hilton Head Humane Association. She started out as a volunteer and after a few years was elected president. She returned as a volunteer when a canister collection person was needed. She enjoyed this activity very much as it offered her the opportunity to meet many owners and employees.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The Hilton Head Humane Association or to Hospice Care of the Low Country.
The family will receive friends between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at The Island Funeral Home and Crematory located at 4 Cardinal Road, Hilton Head Island, SC.
The Island Funeral Home and Crematory are in charge of arrangements; www.theislandfuneralhome.com.
