Several area football players earn all-state honors

Several area players were among those selected to the recently announced New York State Sportswriters Association Class B, Class C and Class D all-state football team.

A total of 26 Section II players earned all-state honors, while 19 others garnered honorable-mention status.

There were three teams selected in Class B and Class C, and two teams in Class D.

Section III also was represented as Dolgeville's James Brys earned honorable-mention status in Class D.

Fonda-Fultonville junior tackle Tyler Cranker was named to the third-team offense in Class C. Two other Braves earned honorable-mention status. Senior defensive end Will Turner and senior defensive back Kevin Twardzik were named to the honorable-mention team for FFCS.

Hoosick Falls seniors Billy Pine (quarterback) and Brad Burns (running back) shared Class C Player of the Year honors after leading the Panthers to the Class C state title.

Also earning all-state honors for Hoosick Falls were wide receiver Randy Tutunjian (second-team offense), defensive tackle Lance Rice-Wilder (second-team defense) and defensive end Bryan Sherman (third-team defense).

Mechanicville linebacker Nate Hatalsky was named to the first-team defense, while Chatham linebacker Al Kelly was named to the second-team defense.

Earning honorable-mention status in Class C were Stillwater's Liam Kane, Chatham's Jesse Whiteman, Stillwater's Shawn McNeil and Corinth's James Gallup.

In Class D, Whitehall running back Josh Hoagland and Greenwich all-purpose player John Barnes were named to the first-team offense.

Cambridge's Matt Parmenter (running back), Rensselaer's Seth Butler (running back), Greenwich's Will McFee (offensive tackle) and Rensselaer's Brandon Butler (wide receiver) were named to the second-team offense.

Rensselaer linebacker James Stevens was named to the second-team defense.

Earning honorable-mention status were Steven Harwood (Rensselaer), Bryant Gibbons (Cambridge), Tyler Brockway (Fort Edward), Tyler Morris (Salem), Brandon Steves (Whitehall) and Isaac Isom (Salem).

Randolph running back Jordan Dowiasz was named the Class D Player of the Year.

In Class B, Maine-Endwell seniors Nick Sorrenti (running back) and Jack Haddock (offensive line) were the co-Players of the Year.

A total of 17 Section II players earned all-state honors in Class B.

Lansingburgh running back Anthony Walker, Schalmont running back Devon Willis and Glens Falls all-purpose player Mike LaNoir were named to the first-team offense.

Defensive tackles Mike Famalaro (Schalmont) and Raekwon Ward (Lansingburgh), linebacker Lee Girard (Glens Falls) and defensive back Shane Lyon (Schuylerville) were named to the second-team defense.

Glens Falls running back Joe McMahon, Albany Academy wide receiver Darrien White and Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk offensive lineman Alex Soutiere were named to the third-team offense.

Glens Falls defensive back was named to the third-team defense.

Earning honorable-mention status in Class B were Brandon Winchell (Hudson Falls), Alex Buchanan (Albany Academy), Harry Proctor (Schuylerville), Jesse Ross (Schalmont), Sam Sax (Glens Falls), Ian Bennett (Albany Academy), Nick Gallo (Schalmont) and Dylan Keyer (Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk).

The Class AA and Class A all-state teams will be announced Wednesday.
