Kenneth H. Hickok

Mr. Kenneth H. Hickok, 87, of Gloversville, passed away December 21, 2012. Mr. Hickok was born June 8, 1925 in Mayfield, son of the late Ralph and Grace Bennett Hickok. He was educated in Mayfield and Broadalbin schools and a self-employed carpenter and skilled mechanic his entire life. He was employed for fourteen years with the Building & Grounds department of the Gloversville Enlarged School District. He was a former member of the Foothills United Methodist Church, the VFW post 2077 and a union carpenter.

Ken enlisted in the Army February 27, 1943. Ken served in France and Germany with the 30th Infantry Division, where he saw action in the Battle of the Bulge and Omaha Beach in Normandy. He received numerous decorations including the Silver Star in lieu of five Bronze Stars, and was featured in the Leader Herald's "Unsung Heroes" article on World War II vets on September 2, 2002. Ken was honorably discharged on November 7, 1945, returning to the Glove Cities area.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marion Kilmartin Hickok of Gloversville, whom he married March 15, 1947. He is also survived by his children; Larry of Tallahassee, Fla. Dan of Glenville, Kim, Todd and Sharon of Gloversville. Ken leaves seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a sister Myrtle Halloran and a brother Jack Hickok. All services were private and at the convenience of his family with final inurnment at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to a charity of choice.
