Dec. 14 was a very sad day. Many innocent lives were taken during a shooting at a school in Newtown, Conn. My family and I are completely devastated by the horrid act. Our prayers go out to the families affected.
The safety of our children should be our number one priority. A security issue has been brought to my attention at the Knox Junior High School. So far this year, the only drills the school has conducted are fire drills. I would think that at this day and age, there would be a drill specific to a school intruder and that drill be practiced on a continual basis. I am also curious as to why the front door isn't locked during school hours. Also, the front doors appear to be wooden and not steel. I also wonder if it could be part of the school district's budget to pay for a security guard to be put at each school.
I remember a time when these things were never heard of. Those days are long behind us now. I understand that even if we can implement these tools, that they may not prevent these horrific crimes, but may deter a school intruder.
