Area runners earn all-state honors

Several area cross-country runners were among those recently selected to the all-state team.

Gloversville's John Knox, Fonda-Fultonville's Matt Hoffman, Broadalbin-Perth's Greg Bogdan, Fonda-Fultonville's Tyler Angioli and Mayfield's Tom McClellan all earned all-state honors.

Fonda-Fultonville freshman Jamie Kasza was the area's lone representative on the girls all-state team, earning second-team honors in Class C. Kasza finished ninth at the state meet after placing 19th as an eighth-grader in 2011.

Knox, a senior, was named to the fourth team in Class B after placing 21st at the state championship meet.

Hoffman, a senior, placed fifth at the state meet and was named first-team Class C all-state. Hoffman helped Fonda-Fultonville finished second as a team in the state Class C championships. Angioli, a senior, earned honorable mention status in Class C.

Bogdan, a junior, also was named to the Class C honorable-mention team. Bogdan was 34th at the state championships.

McClellan, a senior, placed sixth at the Class D state meet and was named first-team all-state.

Fayetteville-Manlius senior Nick Ryan was named the state's Runner of the Year for boys and Senior of the Year. Rush-Henrietta's Mickey Burke was named the state's Junior of the Year, while Carmel's Benito Muniz was named Sophomore of the Year. Saratoga Springs' Aiden Tooker was named Freshman of the Year, while Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons' Jonah Allard was named Eighth-Grader of the Year.

In addition to the area selections, several other Section II boys earned boys all-state honors.

Albany's Philo Germano was named a first-team all-star in Class A, while Saratoga Springs placed Jay Navin (second team), Aidan Tooker (third team), Brent Freestone fourth team), Gavin Gaynor and Evan Quinones (honorable mention) on the Class A all-state team. Bethlehem's Stephen Booker, Colonie's Jake Johnson, Shaker's Adam Schmenzfeier and Shenendehowa's Dan Janeczko earned honorable-mention status in Class A.

In Class B, Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons had Jordan Pantalone (first team), Jason Lange (third team), Jonah Allard (third team) and Matt Lange (fifth team) on the all-state team.

Also named to the Class B all-state team were Averill Park's Andrew Tario (second team), Glens Falls' Josh Lee (fifth team), Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake's John Rabideau (honorable mention), Queensbury's Troy Kelly (honorable mention) and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake's Patrick McGuinness (honorable mention).

The Class C all-state team included Maple Hill's Jordan Healy (second team), Schuylerville's Matt Watson (second team), Corinth's Tanner Flint (third team) and Chatham's Ross Wightman (honorable mention).

Greenwich's Jeremy Spezio was named first-team all-state in Class D, while Mekeel Christian Academy's Jacob Urys was named to the second team. Also earning Class D all-state honors were Duanesbrg's Patrick Murphy (fourth team), Greenwich's Devlin Kennedy (honorable mention), Duanesburg's Xavier McKinley (honorable mention) and Mekeel Christian Academy's Ryun Murphy.

Arlington sophomore Bella Burda was named the state's Runner of the Year for girls and the Sophomore of the Year.

Saratoga Springs' Taylor Driscoll was named Senior of the Year, Penfield's Katie Lembo was named Junior of the Year and Warwick's Megan Reilly was named Freshman of the Year. Holy Names seventh-grader Lydia Williams was named Seventh-/Eighth-Grader of the Year.

In addition to Kasza, several other Section II girls earned boys all-state honors.

Saratoga Springs had Driscoll (first team), Keelin Hollowood (third team), Olivia Morrow (third team), Sarah Morin (sixth team) and Spencer Hayes (honorable mention) earn all-state honors.

Also earning Class A all-state honors Shaker's Maryanna Lansing (second team), Shenendehowa's Caroline Hampton (fourth team), Niskayuna's Felicia Sciortino (fourth team), Colonie's Bellame Brower (fifth team), Shenendehowa's Julia Zachgo (fifth team), Guilderland's Emily Burns (honorable mention) and Shaker's Audrey Martino (honorable mention).

In Class B, Holy Names had Williams (second team), Kaylee Scott (first team), Catherine Maloy (second team), Estela Smith (fourth team), Leah Triller (fourth team) and Jacqueline Willsey (fifth team) earn all-state honors.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake's Lindsay Bachus (third team), Emily Digman (third team), Jordan Casey (fifth team) and Meagan Roecker (sixth team) all earned Class B all-state honors. Queensbury's Sherri Metcalf and Tyra Wynn both were named to the honorable-mention team in Class B.

Stillwater's Victoria Hathaway (third team), Maple Hill's Kelly Pasko (fourth team), Schuylerville's Ashley Watson (fourth team) and Chatham's Erin Clark (honorable mention) were named to the Class C all-state team.

Greenwich's Madeline Montague and Tori Spezio were named first-team Class D all-state, while teammate Sarah Lapham was named to the third team. Berne-Knox-Westerlo's Courtney Tedeschi was named to the Class D first team.
